Below is a note from a good friend about a young woman - Kelsey - she met while visiting her son at one of YWAM's discipleship training schools. As you’ll see, my friend is trying to help Kelsey continue her studies at YWAM. Please let me know if you might be able to help.
“Let me tell you a little about Kelsey.
Kelsey is 23. Our son, Kyle, met Kelsey when he was in training at YWAM for his mission trip last spring.
When she was 18 her mom shot and killed her dad in their home. Her mom suffers from bi-polar disorder and after the death of her (the mom’s) sister she just "snapped" and shot him. Her mom was sentenced to 28 years in prison.
When she turned 21, Kelsey decided to join her sister on a back packing trip to south east Asia. When she came back to the states, she decided to live as a gypsy as many of the new-found friends from her trip had been doing. She would work a job for a few months and then move on to a new city or state. With no parents or support, she found herself rebellious and alone. In November of 2010 she started to feel her life take on a new direction and decided to seek God's will for her life. She joined Youth With a Mission (YWAM) so she could attend their discipleship training school. Part of the school requirement is to complete a mission trip. She just returned from Tijuana and the Dominican Republic where her team ministered to orphans and built houses for the poorest of the poor. At YWAM she has found a family and a place to call home. She has chosen to remain there and attend classes in Biblical Foundations. Not only will she help and support others, she will have mature leaders to walk along side her and encourage her with the calling the Lord has put on her life.
The class costs $3500. Usually someone could turn to their parents or home church to get started. Because of her situation, she can’t do that. Would you consider being her family and help get her started? Let’s bless her with the security of knowing she has found a place that she can stay."
