I sat in a meeting the other day with Esperandieu Pierre who is the Haiti Country Director for Campus Crusade for Christ and listened to his account of the earthquake. His story is different than many as he was in Colorado Springs when the earthquake occurred. His wife and children, however, were here. He had no way of knowing if they were dead or alive.
Esperandieu spent the next (of what must have been an excruciating) 36 hours working his way back to Port au Prince. Only after arriving home was he able to determine that they were safe and sound.
Traveling like I do, I can only imagine how helpless he must have felt being so far away when his family and community needed him most. For me, not being able to check in with Debbie daily is enough to drive me crazy, I can’t imagine the pain of not knowing.
Esperandieu is a great leader, with tremendous vision for his country and the church. It is an honor to partner with him and Campus as we work to help the church care for orphans.
